End crystals deal the highest burst damage in Minecraft. Learn when to place, when to detonate, and how not to blow yourself up.

Crystal PvP is the dominant form on high-stakes SMPs. A single well-timed crystal can delete full netherite players.
Gear baseline
- Netherite armor with Protection IV
- Feather Falling IV boots
- Totems of undying in your off-hand
- Instant damage potions and golden apples
Core mechanics
End crystals explode when damaged. In combat, you place a crystal next to your opponent and immediately hit it. The explosion ignores armor unless they have Blast Protection.
- Place-and-click rhythm: place crystal, hit, place next.
- Use terrain: narrow spaces make crystals unavoidable.
- Totem check: always assume they have totems. Chip health until they pop, then burst.
Common mistakes
- Blowing yourself up by placing too close.
- Using crystals in open fields where opponents can back away.
- Ignoring hunger — sprint-crit combos need full saturation.
On Strength SMPs, custom abilities may counter or amplify crystal damage. Read the server's specific kits before committing to this style.
